The Grafix Lounge

20 09 2007

Just yesterday I received an email from a friend of mine telling me that The Grafix Lounge will be back up and running. Mind you, it had been down for quite a while. Anyhow… here’s a little bit of history…

I found the Grafix Lounge originally back in 2003 I believe and I had just started doing graphic design on the computer. I was looking for PhotoShop resources on the net and came across a link to it. I looked it over and noticed that it was a thriving forum full of useful information. I joined.

This forum introduced me to some of the best graphic designers out there. Not to mention the people were the biggest help to a n00b like me. After a couple of months of being on there I entered a “battle” (A “battle” is where two designers go head to head making a series of graphics based upon a given picture or image) and I won! I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it weren’t for this group of people challenging me and giving their honest opinion and critique on my work.

Anyhow… through this forum I was also introduced to other great places like DeviantArt and PhotoshopCAFE. These two places are great resources as well. I’m going to make a “Graphic Design Resource” page for this blog as well when I get a chance. It’ll be at the top menu when I get it done.

Well to

make a long story short… the Grafix Lounge, to me, was and is THE best forum for the just starting out designer as well as the veteran that wants to hang out with cool people and converse. You should check it out if you are even the slightest bit interested in this type of stuff.

For now I’m out…

Insecurity..

16 09 2007

Insecurity is a feeling of general unease or nervousness that may be triggered by perceiving oneself to be unloved, inadequate or worthless.

A person who is insecure lacks confidence in their own value and capability, trust in themselves or others, or has fears that a present positive state is temporary and will let them down and cause them loss or distress by “going wrong” in future.

As insecurity can be distressing and feel threatening to the psyche, insecurity can often be accompanied by a controlling personality type or avoidance, as psychological defence mechanisms.

Insecurity can be overcome. It takes time and patience and a willingness to believe each person (and specifically oneself) is in fact of innate value. — Source: Wikipedia
